GETTING TO KNOW THE ARTIST: JOAQUÍN SOROLLA (1863-1923)

This year we are learning a lot of new things about one of the most famous Spanish artists: Joaquín Sorolla, the famous painter. He was born in Valencia on 27th February 1863. He died on the 10th August 1923.

Sorolla´s style is called "Impressionism". From an early age it was clear that Sorolla had a passion for art. Instead of academic study, the young Sorolla would spend his school days making drawings in his copybooks.

Valencia is a city that is in the Mediterranean coast, that´s why most of Sorolla´s paintings represent beautifully mediterranean beach scenes. Most of his works show calm and serene scenes, mostly of the sea, children and women.

He is also known as "the painter of light".

In class we have done a minibooklet about the artist and his art works, we really enjoyed and felt like little artists ourshelves!!
